It’s that time of year when normally sane people decide to do crazy things, like camping out in front of electronics stores to get discount laptop computers, or stalking delivery drivers to find out when the next shipment of Nintendo Wii’s will come in.
It’s also the time of year when folks decide to redecorate. Is your office looking a little drab? Could your business reception area use a little work? Is your cafe dining furniture in need of some help? Then get into the spirit of the season, and punch up the place with these helpful redecorating tips.
First, figure out what you want to keep, and what really needs to go. Be honest with yourself about which items you have the time, skill, and desire to restore, and which ones you’d rather just replace.
When you go shopping for replacement seating, test the chairs out yourself or look for customer reviews online. If you find yourself in a place where the furniture looks and feels awesome, ask about the manufacturer and brand. That way, you can order some for yourself. Make sure the materials are high quality and the joints are strong and properly joined. If you’re shopping for chairs with arms, be sure that they are sturdy and well-padded. Chair arms are often the first part of a seat to show wear. Upholstery should be well-fitted and made from a thick weave rather than thin cotton, which also wears out quickly.
Consider color and pattern, too. Bold solids and stripes are masculine. Florals and delicate patterns appeal more to women. Browns, tans, and other neutral tones are good choices for homes or businesses who frequently entertain children; they don’t show stains as much as whites, blacks, or jewel tones.
