The camping chair is a wonderful addition to your camping gear when you are fishing, when you are lazing on the beach, or when you are just trying to drink in the beauty of the nature in a picturesque picnic spot. The camping chair is the icing on cake ? which though not compulsory or a necessity, makes a great addition to the comfort scale of any outdoor camp. You Have Many Types of Camping Chairs to Choose From As a camping chair enthusiast, I have found that there are a great deal of variations to what we think a camping chair should look like. In my opinion (and generally that of the market), the camping chair is something that is light, extremely strong, and foldable. It is usually made out of aluminum pipes (the body) and covered with very thick (bag material) nylon cloth. Hence, it can be folded and carried along with the sleeping bag and other such camping gears weightlessly and unobtrusively. You will find, besides the standard foldable camping chair, that there are a number of other types of chairs, such as the inflatable ones which can also double as exceptional pillows, foldable chair-cum-table which can function as both chair and table as per your requirement, molded seat chairs, and even rockers. There is something for everybody out there. However, to get what you really need, you will need to run a proper survey or do research, and see what is available where, and what would be the most comfortable. The Best Deals Will Come From the Most Unusual Places When my girls one day came running through the main gate, they were carrying a miniature garden chair with them. This was a splendidly designed camping chair. On finding out from where they got it, I went to check the area out personally. There was a bedroom-sized garage full of clothes and sweaters and camping chairs. I was stunned at their exquisite beauty, and the throw-away price at which they were being sold. I bought them all for the sheer joy of having them. Similarly, all you have to do is search. You must look in all paces to find whereabouts of these types of chairs. There is of course the internet; just running a geography-specific search will get you the details of all the dealers in the area. When you decide on a type of camping chair, you should keep in mind the exact purpose for which you will use it. You may like to go fishing and use the chair to be able to stay/sit in running water ? for this purpose you will need the waterproof camping chair, maybe modified with longer legs. If you need the chair to be simply your camping companion, then it does not mater about the water proofing ? it should rather be small smooth and total foldable. Make sure that the people whom you gift these chairs to love outdoor camping, otherwise the gift would be a puzzle; a singly tiny chair received in gift will be a riddle for them. The camping chair makes for some great gift choices, though a bit unusual. Read the rest of this entry »

The American Residential Furniture Market - Forecast to 2015

Of this, 38.0% is wooden case-goods (mainly bedroom furniture), 33.9% is upholstered furniture (mainly chesterfields and matching chairs), 17.1% is mattresses and foundations, and the remaining 11.0% is metal furniture (mainly outdoor furniture).

Measured at manufacturers? prices domestic household furniture sales reached an estimated $30.7 billion in 2005 or about 47.5% of the total dollars spent by U.S. households on furniture. The $47.8 billion difference between the prices received at the retail level and the prices received at the manufacturers? level represents a combination of transportation costs, wages and other costs at the retail level, the retailer?s profit margin, plus all sales taxes.

Over the last two decades household furniture purchases increased significantly from $29.3 billion in 1985 to $78.5 billion in 2005, or 168%. In other words, sales increased at an average annual pace of approximately 5.5% over this period. Chairs - History Part V

In this next article in our series on the history of chairs we’re going to look at chairs of the 18th century.

With the coming of the 18th century, chairs started to become more informal and started to replace the bolt upright look of the courts and the aristocracy that was common during the time of Louis XIV. Around 1720 the commodious seat was developed in Paris, France. The new Rocco chairs were comfortably upholstered on removable frames secured by clips so that changes to the chair could be made to accommodate both winter and summer temperature and humidity conditions. These early Louis XV chairs were upholstered a la reine, with the back in a flat panel that was placed squared to the wall. This way the top rails curves complimented those of the panels behind them.

French fashion in chairs came from Paris as did everything else of the times. From the late 1720s, Louis XV French chairs were made without stretchers because they interfered with the unified flow of curved seatrails into cabriole legs. These usually ended in scrolled feet. This style was strictly enforced until the revolution when they were made mostly by a menuisier in association with the person who made the upholstery who was the huissier. These people specialized in furniture making in Paris. Specialized seats were developed and given some pretty fancy names. The most popular of these was the bergere or “shepherdess”. The woods used to make most of these chairs were walnut and beech. The finishes of the chairs were made in very light tones. The days of the dark finishes were coming to an end. In some cases, the chairs were left in their natural color and were unfinished. Most of the unfinished chairs were made from walnut because it looked better unfinished than beech. In some provinces fruitwoods became very popular for chair making. These were considered variations on the traditional French models. These variations were produced mostly by Bordeaux and Liege between 1725 and 1780. Read the rest of this entry »

Be the envy of your neighbours with your new garden furniture

Wrought iron is commercially pure iron with low carbon content. The term ‘wrought’ means that the iron has been worked into a finished product and this description is commonly used to refer to ornamental ironwork, although these days this is frequently manufactured from mild steel.

Elegant wrought iron patio furniture can be a charming enhancement to your deck or outdoor area. As well as being beautifully designed, wrought iron furniture can be very practical as long as you ensure it is powder coated to increase its durability and weather resistance.

You can create the very essence of a French afternoon that Henry Matisse captured in his surreal painting of an outdoor caf? table. He portrayed the beautiful chair against the vivid colors of a mosaic table top, Parisian caf? and a cobblestone road. Delicate wrought iron furniture can help you bring the Parisian caf? feel to your own backyard. You can create the perfect outdoor space to sip your latte whilst delving into a work of classic fiction. Read the rest of this entry »
