Commercial hotel furniture gets a bad rap. I know this, because I’m often the one giving it the bad rap. But seriously, when you’ve sat on enough cracked, vinyl, faded cushions, you learn to appreciate hotel managers who think outside the mauve.

maran-table-white.jpgThat’s why I like the AP Plastic/T by Marco Maran. It’s different! When I first saw it, I thought that it would be great as modern wine bar furniture. I mean, the table itself is shaped like a giant carafe.

The sleek white color is clean and contemporary looking, but this table and its corresponding stools are available in many other hues as well. A mixture of several colors would look great in a kids’ play area, ice cream parlor, or any other playful setting. It looks like the stools can sit upright whichever way you turn them, which is something else that will appeal to kids who like to upturn the furniture.

If you want something more sedate, a couple of contrasting or complementary colors would make for neat bistro dining chairs. I can also imagine the violet blue stools in a nightclub with elaborate lighting, or the red ones in a quaint cigar bar.

maran-stools-colors.jpgThis collection is made from easy-care polyethylene, which ensures that moisture and sunlight won’t damage it – perfect for outdoor seating. The table’s dimensions are 76cm high, 65cm wide, and 47cm deep. The stools are 45cm high, 40cm wide, and 40cm deep.

I think this set would do well in hotels, especially ones that catered to families with children. But a little ingenuity and the right accents and lighting would make them fit perfectly into a sophisticated scene, too. Their versatility adds to their value; you could completely change your decor, and fun tables and chairs like this would still work with your chosen look.
